1.  What is an elective prenatal ultrasound?

An elective prenatal ultrasound is an ultrasound procedure not covered by insurance and not ordered by a physician.  Sandcastle Sonography, Inc. offers families a unique bonding experience with their unborn baby.  The realistic 3D images help parents and siblings to connect with their unborn child.  This bonding experience takes place in our office which provides families a relaxed, antiseptic environment in order to promote a connection with your unborn child.

2.  Is this a diagnostic ultrasound examination?

No, this is not a diagnostic ultrasound examination.  Sandcastle Sonography, Inc. offers an elective prenatal ultrasound to provide families with a positive bonding experience with their unborn child.  This does not take the place of a medical diagnostic ultrasound ordered by a licensed practitioner.  Clients seeking an appointment for a 3D ultrasound with Sandcastle Sonography, Inc. must be under the care of a licensed practitioner and have already received a medical diagnostic examination.  We are not screening the fetus for basic fetal anatomy or fetal anomalies.  Sandcastle Sonography, Inc. is using the 3D prenatal ultrasound to provide a realistic image of the unborn baby.

3.  Is the 3D prenatal examination safe for me and my baby?

Research over the past 20 years has shown no detrimental effects on the mother or fetus from an ultrasound examination.  Diagnostic ultrasounds are performed routinely within the United states to access the fetus for growth and to screen for fetal anomalies.  Sandcastle Sonography Inc. employees experienced, registered sonographers who have been trained in the use of our ultrasound equipment.

7.  Will I always get a beautiful image of my baby?

Usually we are able to capture a wonderful surface image of the baby's face.  However, if the baby's position is not conducive for a good image, it may not be possible to obtain a realistic facial image.  If this occurs, we will perform a repeat scan at a later time.  This normally corrects the problem because the baby has moved into a favorable position.  Every unborn baby is different and unique; we will make every effort to obtain the best possible images for you.
